Externally heated regenerative desiccant air dryer is developed based on the successful design of the heatless type and heated type desiccant air dryers. The purge air is pre-heated before regeneration to reduce its required capacity in order to achieve an energy saving. It avoids the disadvantage of short switching period of heatless type desiccant air dryer, and at the same time it consumes much less heating energy like heated type desiccant air dryer. This series of desiccant dryer incorporates the working principles of pressure swing adsorption and temperature swing adsorption. Desiccant absorbs water moisture in drying column and being regenerated with high quality dried and heated purge air in regeneration column by air thermal diffusion and high pressure difference mechanisms.
